Ford v. Ferrari, the newest film by acclaimed director James Mangold, recently released its second theatrical trailer. As another editor for The News Wheel put it: “Ford v. Ferrari promises excitement on and off the track.”

After multiple viewings of the film’s second trailer, our hopes are higher than ever.

Matt Damon plays the revolutionary auto designer Carrol Shelby, who managed to wrangle the highly-skilled and notoriously curmudgeonly race car driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale).

Filling out the cast, Tracy Letts plays Henry Ford II, while John Bernthal (best known for compulsively rubbing his stubbly head as Shane on The Walking Dead) portrays Lee Iacocca, the Vice-President of Ford.

The film’s second trailer continues to emphasize the technological rivalry between Ford and Ferrari as well as the personal contention between Miles and Shelby.

After its debut at the Telluride Film Festival and premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Ford v. Ferrari is generating substantial Oscar buzz in multiple categories. Both Damon and Bale are in the early running for Best Actor awards, and Oscar-nominated writer and director James Mangold (Walk the Line, Logan) is likely to be on the ballot as well.

It’s also worth noting that Mangold established a rapport with Bale while filming his 2007 western film 3:10 to Yuma.
