GM Adds HD Technology to Its Backup Cameras

Rearview cameras now come standard on all new vehicles sold in the U.S. However, General Motors is not a brand that settles for standard.

Instead, GM is now offering high definition backup cameras with several of its vehicles.

Standard Tech Improvements: 2019 Chevrolet Silverado adds improved base model

A total of 11 2019 GM vehicles are available with HD backup cameras. These include:

2019 Chevrolet Blazer
2019 Chevrolet Camaro
2019 Chevrolet Colorado
2019Chevrolet Equinox
2019 Chevrolet Malibu
2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2019 Chevrolet Volt
2019 Cadillac CT6
2019 Cadillac XT4
2019 GMC Sierra 1500
2019 GMC Terrain

Furthermore, the following 2020 GM vehicles have been confirmed to come with the HD cameras:

2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD
2020 Cadillac XT6
2020 GMC Acadia
2020 GMC Sierra HD

GM upgraded the video processing system for the technology’s dashboard screen display to make this upgrade a possibility. The result is a crisper, cleaner image of objects that are behind each vehicle.

Chevrolet’s 360-degree Surround Vision system will also benefit from a high definition upgrade. However, the Rear Camera Mirror included in many GM vehicles will not yet receive an upgrade to HD, as it runs on a different system than that of the backup camera and Surround Vision.

Plans are currently in place to carry this high-definition technology over to even more of the GM vehicle lineup for the 2020 model year, including models like the Chevrolet Corvette and upcoming Cadillac CT5. This HD upgrade is just one of the many ways GM stands out when it comes to vehicle safety and technology.
