GMC celebrated a successful third quarter, improving its sales by 11.4 percent compared to a year ago.
From July through September, General Motors’ upscale truck and SUV brand sold 140,789 units, a significant improvement on the 126,417 sales it posted over the same three months in 2018. Looking at the year as a whole, GMC is up 5.6 percent for the first nine months of 2019 with total sales sitting at 418,066 units.
GMC’s third-quarter sales growth was primarily driven by the Sierra 1500 truck and the Acadia SUV. Read on for a more in-depth look at how well each GMC vehicle sold.

Mixed results for SUVs
The midsize Acadia was the only GMC SUV to improve its sales for the quarter — but that improvement was a major one. The vehicle posted an impressive 50.8 percent increase with 20,338 models sold. The compact Terrain was down 15.9 percent with 27,428 sold. The full-size Yukon was down, too, selling 18,737 units for a 10.3 percent drop.
Sierra leads truck sales
The Sierra 1500 pickup led the way for the entire GMC brand, boasting 47,743 sales — a 38.2 percent increase. The Sierra HD, boosted by the introduction of all-new 2020 models, notched a 9.7 percent gain with 16,817 sold. The midsize Canyon wasn’t quite as successful, posting 7,437 sales for an 11.7 percent decline.
Don’t forget the Savana
Usually a solid seller, GMC’s Savana van continued its steady ways in the third quarter, selling 5,021 units and achieving a 4.3 percent increase.
