Parents in search of safe transportation for their teenage drivers will find what they’re looking for in the Hyundai lineup, which was recently honored with three awards from U.S. News & World Report.

The 2019 Santa Fe SUV and 2019 Accent sedan were named to the publication’s Best New Cars for Teens list. The 2016 Tucson SUV made the list of Best Used Cars for Teens.

“The Accent, Santa Fe, and Tucson each have strong safety and reliability ratings, as well as some cutting-edge advanced driver assistance systems,” said Jamie Page Deaton, U.S. News Best Cars executive editor. “Hyundai’s BlueLink smartphone app on the Accent and Santa Fe is an especially smart feature for parents of teen drivers, as it allows them to monitor some of what their teens do behind the wheel.”

The 2019 Santa Fe, which owns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS, offers an array of standard teen-friendly features. These include Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist and Blind Spot Detection for safe reversing and lane changes, along with a Safe Exit Assist system that make getting out of the vehicle safer.

The 2019 Accent, an IIHS Top Safety Pick, offers a variety of available advanced safety features. One of its most helpful systems for teens is Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, which helps prevent or mitigate crashes with radar and automatic braking.

The 2016 Tucson got solid crash test ratings from the IIHS when it came out. It also featured numerous optional safety technologies like Automatic Emergency Braking Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning System, Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

To compile its lists of Best Cars for Teens, U.S. News uses criteria like reliability ratings, available safety features, and crash test scores, choosing the vehicles with the best mix of these qualities.
