Alfonso Albaisa introduces the 2016 Infiniti QX50 at the New York Auto Show

Infiniti vehicle design truly blossomed under the leadership of Alfonso Albaisa. In early 2017, he was promoted to head the design group for the entire Nissan family of brands. Since then, the company has been looking for a new designer to make Infiniti even better. The latest professional to step into Albaisa’s shoes is Taisuke Nakamura.

Nakamura’s promotion to the position of Head of Infiniti Design, effective tomorrow, comes after his predecessor, Karim Habib, left the automaker. Before his new position, Nakamura reported to Habib as an Infiniti Program Design Director. The press release from the company states that his former job had him working with global design strategy. He joined Nissan in 1993 after he earned a bachelor’s degree in product design from Kyoto City University. He moved over to the Infiniti division in 2018.

While his tenure at Infiniti seems somewhat short compared to his time at Nissan, the vehicles he’s worked on since his arrival should silence any doubters. Nakamura has had a role to play in many of Infiniti’s latest concept cars, including the Infiniti QX Inspiration we all drooled over during auto show season.

But Why? Check out the Infiniti difference

Besides taking on the legacy of the previous Head of Infiniti Design, Nakamura has a whole new challenge to work through: autonomous technology. In recent months, Albaisa has disclosed to the press that some of the latest generations of vehicles from Infiniti and sister Nissan have had to be reworked to accommodate advanced safety systems’ sensors. It’s not an impossible challenge, but certainly a new and unique situation that Nakamura will have to innovate through.

We’re cheering for Taisuke Nakamura in his new role, and wish him the best. We can’t wait to see some fresh design ideas from Infiniti.
