In-vehicle infotainment technology can transform your drive from boring and something you dread to a well-connected, entertaining endeavor that makes your commute fly by. But just because your car is equipped with an infotainment system doesn’t mean it’s easy to use. Worse than not having an infotainment system at all, is having one that’s temperamental and hard-to-use. To weed out the un-user-friendly systems and steer you in the direction of the infotainment systems that will make your car ride sing, J.D. Power conducted its third-annual 2018 Multimedia Quality and Satisfaction StudySM.

After collecting and evaluating responses from vehicle owners about their vehicles’ in-car audio, communication, entertainment, and navigation technologies after their initial 90-days of ownership, J.D. Power determined that the Kia Rio and Kia Forte were best in their categories — small mass market and compact mass market, respectively.

“In-car multimedia has been a problematic category for automakers for several years, as ever-more elaborate navigation, voice recognition and entertainment systems have proliferated in vehicles of every type,” said Brent Gruber, Senior Director, Automotive Quality Practice, J.D. Power. “While the area is still the leading cause of new-vehicle complaints — with voice recognition technology continuing to lead the way as the number one complaint for a sixth consecutive year — we are seeing some serious improvement across the board, with some manufacturers really raising the bar on delivering quality multimedia technology experiences for their customers.”
