Lincoln Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition Brings Back Suicide Doors
Ask and (ask and ask and ask and) ye shall receive. Lincoln on Monday confirmed what we have long suspected and hoped for: the return of suicide doors for the Continental. The Lincoln Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition will bring back rear-hinged doors as part of a limited run that will hit dealerships next summer.
With the future of the Continental very much in question, the prospect of full-blown suicide-doored Continental production was likely not a risk that Lincoln was looking to take. Instead, the Coach Door Edition Continental will be offered in a run of just 80 vehicles as part of the 2019 model year, and an additional limited run will be available for the 2020 model year. The Continental is not likely to continue beyond its current generation, putting 2020 as the likely final year for sales.

In addition to suicide doors, the Lincoln Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition boasts a six-inch-longer wheelbase and best-in-class second-row legroom. The limited-edition Continental will be well-appointed, featuring your choice of Black Label interior theme, Head-Up Display, Perfect Position seats, Revel Ultima Audio, and a door sill plate with its run number. It will also feature a rear-seat pass-through console with stowable tray table and tablet holder, which seems like the kind of high-lux feature that could be incorporated in the Navigator Presidential that has been spotted testing in the wild.
“This Lincoln Continental echoes a design that captured the hearts of car enthusiasts around the world,” says Joy Falotico, president, The Lincoln Motor Company. “It’s something bespoke only Lincoln can offer in a thoroughly modern way.”
The 2019 Lincoln Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition is available to order through Lincoln Black Label dealers around the United States, and it is not likely to last long. If you’re one of the folks who has opined for the return of the suicide-doored luxury sedan, now is your chance to put your money where your mouth is.
