For all of the animal lovers out there, Lee Asher’s life may sound like a dream come true. And maybe it is. Asher travels the country in an RV called The Asher House with his six rescue dogs. He pictured a better life for him and his pups, which inspired The Asher House.

Their adventure began with a kickstarter campaign, which gave them the opportunity to get started. From there, Asher and his best friend simply took a leap of faith. They quit their jobs, found a way to out of their leases, sold nearly everything, and hit the road in a custom RV with their six rescue dogs. The Asher House has one mission: to clear the shelters.

Finding Adventure: 3 things to consider when choosing an RV

Traveling all 48 of the continental United States, the Asher House hosts adoption events with local shelters and rescues, sponsoring adoptions and providing new owners with a one-month supply of dog food.

Their RV has been customized to fit the dogs’ lifestyle. “[The RV] almost looks like we built it just for the dogs,” Asher said. “It’s literally perfect.” He said the dogs take turns in the front seat, and sometimes even share it. When it’s time to sleep, they gather in the bed above the driver’s seat.

The custom paint on the RV attracts potential owners, as well, painted with dogs, bones, and a custom logo that says “The Asher House.” When his rescue dogs are in the front seat, they can stick their heads out the window. One video, seen below, even shows other drivers on the road asking about dogs through their car windows.

Asher says he’s grateful for the life he’s been able to give his dogs through this process, and for helping shelter dogs find loving, forever homes.
