2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

Do you remember last month how we told you that the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was in the running for the 2019 Green SUV of the Year ® award from Green Car Journal? The Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle took home the crown on Thursday, November 29, at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

This award gave top honors to the Mitsubishi model for displaying excellence in environment performance with an inexpensive cost for most car consumers.

In a press release, Fred Diaz, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Motors North America, said the award reemphasized the automaker’s dedication to quality.

“The Outlander PHEV is a halo vehicle for the brand and we’re proud to bring consumers an efficient yet capable plug-in hybrid CUV at a price point they can afford,” said Diaz. “This prestigious award is a testament to the strong value of this vehicle, and reaffirms Mitsubishi’s commitment to an electric-powered future made up of innovative and affordable vehicles.”

Green Car Journal stated that SUV buyers want a more efficient drive without impacting the environment but do not want to sacrifice their preferred driving experience.

“Mitsubishi’s Outlander PHEV meets these needs in a big way with its innovative series-parallel plug-in hybrid powertrain, all-electric driving capability, and exceptional SUV functionality. It has clearly earned its distinction as the 2019 Green SUV of the Year™,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com.

With its 2.0-liter Atkinson Cycle gas engine and its Super All-Wheel Control system, Mitsubishi’s plug-in electric crossover gets 74 mpg-e and charges in about 25 minutes with its Fast Charging technology.*

Offering both electric vehicle adaptability and sport utility power, the hybrid SUV gives consumers little reason to consider other options on the market.

With its past recent awards, nabbing the Green Car Journal’s coveted SUV award is not a surprise. Earlier in 2018, the Outlander PHEV took home the New England Motor Press Association’s “Best Green Winter Vehicle” title and the “Best 5 All-Around Performance” award from the Automotive Science Group.
