Lincoln kicked off 2018 with a disappointing 27% sales drop from January 2017, delivering a total of 6,410 vehicles in the United States last month. But for one vehicle, every vehicle in Lincoln’s lineup posted a double-digit percentage loss in sales volume in January, leading to a 39.2% decline in car sales and a 19.8% decline in SUV sales.
Lincoln’s one success story in January was the all-new 2018 Navigator, which almost doubled its total sales and more than doubled its retail sales from 2017. The Lincoln Navigator was up 97.5% last month with sales totaling 1,288 vehicles, and retail sales increased 131.7% for the Navigator’s best January in a decade.
What’s more, an impressive 84% of all Navigators sold at retail were from the top highest trim levels—Reserve and Black Label—helping drive an overall $8,700 increase in transaction prices. The Lincoln Navigator Black Label commands a starting price more than $20,000 greater than the base model. The Navigator is also selling exceedingly quickly, taking just seven days to turn on dealership lots.

Even with the Navigator’s success, Lincoln SUV sales fell from 5,508 vehicles in 2017 to a total of 4,419 delivered last month. Lincoln MKX sales were down 38.1% at 1,811 vehicles, MKC sales were down 28.2% at 1,197 vehicles, and MKT sales were down 52.7% at 123 vehicles.
Lincoln’s car sales totaled 1,991 vehicles in January; deliveries of the MKZ were down 43.7% at 1,176 vehicles, and deliveries of the Continental fell 30.2% from 1,167 vehicles in January 2017 to 815 vehicles last month.
