Netflix to Receive a New “Transformers” Series Next Year
Transformers: War for Cybertron will focus on the earliest days of conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons
Transformers television shows have existed since the first iteration of the franchise debuted back in 1984. However, the Autobots and Decipticons are now preparing to enter a whole new media domain: streaming.
Industry reports indicate that a new Transformers show will be making its way to Netflix next year.
A Look Into Transformers Lore: What do the Transformers Transform Into?
The series in question will be called Transformers: War for Cybertron. It is being developed through a partnership between Netflix, Hasbro, and Rooster Teeth, the studio behind shows like RWBY and gen:LOCK.
Described as a multi-part animated series, Transformers: War for Cybertron will explore the growing conflict between the heroic Autobots and the villainous Decepticons on their home planet of Cybertron. The series will take place long before either robotic faction made their way to Earth.
FJ DeSanto, who wrote for the Transformers: Power of the Primes web series, will serve as the showrunner for Transformers: War for Cybertron. Other writers for the show include George Krstic, Gavin Hignight, and Brandon Easton.

The series is said to have a unique art style that the Transformers franchise has never utilized before. Top brass at Hasbro seem excited for the upcoming series.
“We’re thrilled to work with Rooster Teeth’s new premium studio division to bring an all-new Transformers fan-oriented series to Netflix,” said Tom Warner, SVP for the Transformers franchise at Hasbro. “Transformers has a rich history of great storytelling and War for Cybertron is an exciting new chapter in the Transformers Universe.”
There’s been no confirmation on what this means for the Transformers: Cyberverse animated series that is currently airing on Cartoon Network. Regardless, the series is set to “roll out” sometime in 2020.
