Summer vacations are something of an American rite of passage, one that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. A recent AAA survey found that 64 percent of Americans are planning to take a vacation this summer.
The Perfect Ride for Your Summer Excursion: How to use your Mitsubishi Outlander for a summer road trip
The top destination for summer vacationers is once again Orlando, Florida, home to theme parks like the Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Studios Orlando. This summer will mark the official debut of Disney’s latest theme park attraction: Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. As Star Wars continues to be just as much an American tradition as summer vacations, Disney expects to see sizable crowds during its opening.
Other popular domestic destinations include Seattle, Washington, and Honolulu, Hawaii. Vacationers hoping to escape the summer heat are evidently also planning to head to Anchorage, Alaska.
As for international excursions, London tops the list, coming in right under Orlando as the #2 vacation spot of choice. Last year’s second-place finisher, Rome, was ranked as the third most-popular vacation spot this year.
AAA has a word of advice for any vacationers.
“AAA recommends travelers plan ahead and book early with the expertise of a knowledgeable travel agent to maximize your vacation experience, saving time and money so you can focus on making vacation memories that will last well after summer fades away,” said Paula Twidale, vice president of AAA Travel.
Enjoy the Great Outdoors: Great places to camp
If crowded vacations are not your idea of a relaxing excursion, you may want to avoid some of these popular vacation spots, opting instead for destinations that are off the beaten path. On the other hand, if vacation spots full of fellow travelers are more your style, be sure to book your summer trip well ahead of time.
