Earlier this month, MotorTrend released its 2020 awards podium contenders for car, SUV, and truck of the year. The truck category initially included eight models but was pared down to just three finalists, including the all-new Jeep Gladiator.

In its review of the new truck from the Jeep brand, MotorTrend praised the Gladiator’s quirky style, off-road capabilities, and customization options. Right from the start, there isn’t another truck on the market that looks like the Jeep Gladiator. And it’s not all for show; the truck has some sturdy handling and impressive features, even on the base Sport model.

“Nothing else is like the Gladiator, and in a crowded market where brand allegiances ain’t what they used to be, I think standing out is a big plus,” said MotorTrend senior features editor Jonny Lieberman. Part of what Lieberman was referring to is the fact that the Gladiator can be had as a convertible, whether you go with the soft top or hard top.

The Jeep Gladiator beat out the Silverado 1500, Silverado 2500HD, Ford Ranger, GMC Sierra 1500, and Ram Heavy Duty models to become a finalist in the Truck of the Year category. It’s now going up against two competitors to win the top spot: the GMC 3500 and the Ram 1500. Both are respectable opponents in the truck world and are known for their impressive abilities and brand reliability.

“The exceptional quality, depth of features, and capability demonstrated by this year’s field made our judges’ award selections that much more difficult,” says MotorTrend’s SVP of Content and Editor-in-Chief Edward Loh. “We look forward to unveiling the well-deserved winners during our annual awards ceremony.”

The MotorTrend Awards “Golden Calipers” ceremony takes place on Monday, Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. PT. Until then, we’ll be anxiously awaiting the results!
