As of late, many automakers have been introducing — or hinting at the arrival of — an all-electric SUV to their lineups. Ford has its Mustang-inspired SUV debuting later this month while rumors have been swirling around Cadillac creating an all-new, all-electric model for 2022. But Kia didn’t feel the need to wait when it came to its latest concept: the Futuron SUV Coupe. Introduced at the 2019 China International Import Expo in Shanghai, this innovative model embodies Kia’s vision of electric vehicle design.

The space gray SUV has an evolved version of the signature Kia tiger nose grille which seamlessly integrates its Star Cloud design headlamps. And rather than standard circle or oval bulbs, the Star Cloud design — which can also be found at the rear of the vehicle — takes inspiration from the night sky and features a matrix of LED lights.

Because of its all-electric powertrain, the Futuron is able to sit lower than most SUVs while also featuring a lean overall shape. With the lower center of gravity and its cutting edge e-AWD system, the concept is able to react to driver input quicker, creating a more thrilling drive.

Once inside, you’ll find what appear to be floating front seats and a passenger’s seat that extends to the floor for ultimate comfort. Instead of a standard steering wheel, the Kia Futuron concept SUV has a rectangular graphical user interface that integrates with the dashboard display. The cockpit-inspired interior also features a scaled Dragon Skin design that seems to make the interior Star Cloud system truly glitter.

While this is only a concept at the moment, Kia has a reputation for taking many parts of its concept vehicles and implementing them in production models not long after debuting them (like the Stinger and Telluride). Time will tell if we get anything close to the Futuron SUV in the coming months or years.
