SUV-lovers in China are in for an exclusive treat with the launch of the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox RS at the Chengdu Motor Show. Chevy launched the China-exclusive trim for drivers who are fond of sportier, more aggressive aesthetics. The Equinox RS joins the Camaro RS as the Bowtie brand’s second RS model offered in the Chinese marketplace.

The Equinox RS carries a price that ranges from RMB 220,900 (approximately $33,860 USD) and RMB 250,900 (approximately $38,459 USD). It adds to the new Equinox—originally launched in China this past April—a red RS badge, black Chevy logo trim, black Bowtie badges, black rear nameplate, black-trimmed grille, black mirrors, distinctive dark-painted wheels with contrasting silver accents, and body-colored door handles.

There will be three variants of the Equinox RS, all of which will be available with either red or black exterior colors. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbo paired to a nine-speed Hydra-Matic transmission, which delivers 191 kW (256 horsepower) and 353 Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque, or the 1.5-liter turbo with six-speed DSS transmission, which has an output of 132 kW (177 horsepower) and 275 Nm (203 lb-ft of torque).

“The launch of the Equinox follows Chevrolet’s announcement late last year that we will introduce more than 20 new or refreshed products in China by the end of 2020,” said Andy Dunstan, general director of Chevrolet in China. “Nearly 30% of the models will be SUVs and nearly half new nameplates for the China portfolio.”

The Equinox RS also offers cutting-edge safety technologies including Side Blind Zone Alert and Forward Collision Alert, as well as convenience features like keyless entry and Active Noise Cancellation.
