What’s old is new again

One of the automotive industry’s most highly-anticipated models at the moment is the 2019 Ram 1500. Yet, there are likely plenty of pickup truck enthusiasts who aren’t quite ready to say farewell to the current iteration of the Ram 1500.

For them, Ram has a solution. The automaker is set to sell a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic vehicle alongside the all-new 2019 Ram 1500.

Leaving a Legacy: A brief history of Ram trucks

The Ram 1500 Classic will be based on the Ram 1500’s current “DS” model, rather than the upcoming “DT” design. Both generations of the Ram 1500 will be sold throughout the 2018 calendar year.

“As we launch the all-new 2019 Ram 1500, we didn’t want to walk away from a key part of the light-duty truck market,” explained Mike Manley, Head of the Ram brand. “Ram will continue to produce the 1500 Classic targeted at entry and commercial buyers.”

This won’t be the first time that an automaker has released a past iteration of its pickup truck alongside a new model. Chevrolet is set to do something similar with its Chevy Silverado Legacy lineup.

There won’t just be one special-edition model for the Ram 1500 Classic either. Instead, the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic will be available in four trim levels: the Tradesman, Express, Big Horn/Lone Star and SSV (Special Services Vehicle).

Furthermore, three distinct packages will be available for the Ram 1500 Classic, each with their own set of exclusive features. These include the Chrome Plus package, the Express Black Accent Package, and the Tradesman SXT.

The Ram 1500 Classic will utilize a link-coil rear suspension system developed by Ram. This suspension provides increased handling and ride quality, while simultaneously shedding weight.

The 2019 Ram 1500 Classic model will be built at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant, and will be available sometime during the fourth quarter of 2018. So, before this generation of Ram trucks goes away, don’t miss your last opportunity to purchase a Ram 1500 Classic model of your own.
