Earlier this month, Subaru released its April sales figures. As expected, it showed a 47 percent decrease when compared to the same month in 2019. Naturally, this is the direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic; before the virus hit, the automaker had celebrated its best-ever February, 72 consecutive months of more than 40,000 vehicles sold, and 11 straight years of sales records.

However, there are more than a few silver linings.

People love it for a reason: The Subaru Forester

The silver linings

To begin with, Subaru still shipped 30,620 units in April, which is remarkable considering the various degrees of lockdown across America. Second, the Forester continued to perform admirably, moving just shy of 9,500 models over the course of the month. Third, true to character, the brand’s leaders are as supportive of their dealerships and communities as ever.

In a press release, Thomas J. Doll, President and CEO of Subaru of America, said, “While this pandemic has been difficult for the auto industry, April sales for Subaru were better than expected. We are immensely proud of our retailers’ efforts and perseverance in this difficult market.”

He then took an opportunity to highlight all the good that the entire Subaru family has been doing across the United States. “Through our partnership with Feeding America®, Subaru and our retailers have also come together to provide 50 million meals nationwide to assist those having difficulty accessing and purchasing food. We want to thank our retailers for their participation in this initiative, making them more than a typical car dealer.”

As customer-focused as ever

Even if April sales are down, Subaru’s customer satisfaction is anything but. Just since the beginning of April, the brand has been named Kelley Blue Book’s Most Trusted Brand, the 2020 Outback was included on Good Housekeeping’s list of the year’s Best New Family Cars, and the 2020 Impreza earned a spot in Parents’ selection of the Best Cars for Teen Drivers.

Your Subaru takes care of you: Give it the best service out there

If its track record of strong sales, customer satisfaction, and accolades are any indication, it won’t take long before we see Subaru’s numbers back where they used to be, and maybe even higher.
