I’d love to take a trip out West to see some of the country’s most famous natural wonders. Yellowstone, Yosemite, Glacier National Park, and the Canyonlands are at the top of my list. That said, I really enjoy Dayton’s nearby local and state parks. We have a great MetroParks system, and if you’re willing to travel, Hocking Hills and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park are both can’t-miss destinations. They’re both a little far, so I’m lucky to get out there once a year. Let’s face it — most days, the best I can do is wander around Skyrim.

The Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. It would be a lengthy road trip, but there would be a lot to GMC there (excuse the GM pun).

On the one hand, when I go on vacation, I love exploring urban settings: strolling city streets, browsing bookstores and record stores, visiting museums, and enjoying local restaurants and breweries. On the other hand, I also love to experience beautiful natural scenery via walks, hikes, and scenic drives. So my dream summer road trip destination would be a place where I could do both — for example, Asheville, North Carolina, where my wife and I honeymooned last fall.

Midwest summers can get pretty sweltering. So, I suppose my ideal road trip would be to the northeastern region of the U.S. The first destination would be Maine (hiking in Acadia, eating fresh lobster, and going on a guided moose-watching tour at Moosehead Lake). The next destination would be New Brunswick, to visit a friend I haven’t seen in years (and hopefully see more moose?). Then, stopping by Niagara Falls on the drive back home to Ohio.
