The Toyota RAV4 is already popular with compact crossover drivers thanks to its fun styling, affordable price point, and standard Toyota Safety Sense P. Additionally, the RAV4 has proven to be more than capable off-road, even in front-wheel drive format, as rally driver Ryan Millen demonstrated this season with an undefeated finish in the 2WD class. And now, the RAV4 is set to get even more exciting with the addition of the 2018 RAV4 Adventure.

Toyota first unveiled the RAV4 Adventure in February at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show. Admittedly, Toyota’s display and presentation was a little unadventurous, but the RAV4 Adventure was well-received along with new TRD Sport versions of the Tundra truck and Sequoia SUV. Now, Toyota is sharing more details about the RAV4 Adventure crossover, which will be available at Toyota dealers across the US by the end of this month.

The RAV4 Adventure’s looks match its name, with 18-inch black alloy wheels, black headlamp bezels, and black fog lamp surround. In other words, there’s a lot of black on this crossover, which presumably is meant to make it evoke buzzwords like “aggressive stance” and “off-road ready.” Other exterior features include standard roof rails for all your escapades, Adventure badging, and a ground clearance of 6.5 inches compared to 6.1 inches on the regular RAV4.

Inside, you’ll find a leather-wrapped shifter, all-weather mats, carbon-fiber-like trim panels, and even a new power outlet in the cargo area for charging your adventure gear.

The RAV4 Adventure, as with all other gasoline trims, is powered by a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine good for 176 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. This motor partners with a six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission for seamless shifting. Together, the engine and transmission send power to either the front wheels, or all four wheels if you splurge for the AWD model. The front-wheel-drive model allows towing of up to 2,900 pounds, while the AWD version can haul 3,500 pounds.

The new 2018 RAV4 Adventure will come with a starting MSRP of $27,700 for the FWD model, and $28,400 for the AWD version. Neither price includes delivery, processing, and handling, which varies depending on your location.
