Toyota Truck Sales Surge in April 2019
Toyota Motor North America reported April 2019 sales of 183,866 vehicles, a decrease of 4.4 percent on a volume basis and of 8.2 percent on a daily selling rate basis.
However, Toyota light trucks experienced their best-ever April, with 102,074 sales marking a 1.6 percent improvement over the same period last year.
This is more of the same for Toyota, whose light truck sales (which include crossovers, SUVs, and pickup trucks) have consistently continued to increase while overall sales have fluctuated, a trend mirrored across most of the industry.
The Toyota RAV4, the best-selling SUV in America, was up 10.1 percent, marking its best ever April on sales of 34,139 units. Its biggest rivals, the Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue, were down at 28,436 sales and 24,159 sales, respectively.

The Tacoma midsize pickup truck was up 8.3 percent to also mark its own best-ever April as well as its 18th consecutive month of increased sales. With over 20,000 units sold, it remains one of the automaker’s best-selling vehicles.
Still, despite the continued decline of passenger cars, many automakers would be happy to pull in as many four-door sedan sales as Toyota. The Camry was just a few hundred sales short of the 30,000 mark, and the Corolla even closer to 20,000, with the Corolla Hatchback up 14.2 percent to make it yet another best-ever April.
Smaller-volume cars also did well. The Yaris was up 21.6 percent and the Mirai up a whopping 166 percent to mark the final best-ever April performance for a Toyota model.
