As hybrid vehicles, all-electric models, and plug-in hybrids (or hybrid hybrids, as I’ve taken to calling them) continue to grow in popularity, Volvo continues to prove its mettle in these segments. After the well-received announcement of the XC40 Recharge, a record-breaking sales month in October, and the multiple ALG Awards the brand recently collected, Volvo’s winning-streak shows no sign of ending. The 2020 Volvo XC90 recently earned the distinction of being named the “mid-size luxury SUV of Texas” by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA).

Thanks to the 2020 Volvo XC90’s advanced technology, striking design, modern safety features, and exceptional efficiency, this award marks the fifth year in a row that the Texas Auto Writers Association has recognized a Volvo SUV.

In response to the award, Anders Gustafsson, Senior Vice President Americas and President & CEO Volvo Car USA LLC, said, “Being recognized again by TAWA journalists is very special. It makes us proud and we hope it gives Texans the confidence to buy something a little friendlier to the environment.”

Meanwhile, perhaps speaking to Texan citizens’ enthusiasm for high-performance, no-nonsense cars, Kristen Shaw, TAWA Vice President of Events, had a few things to say. “Volvo consistently represents the one-two punch of luxury and safety, and the attention to detail is clear in features like the crystal gearshift and upscale materials. Yes, it’s beautiful inside and out, but the XC90 is also hardy enough to manage tough terrain.”

It’s not often that a vehicle or a brand can simultaneously appeal to drivers who want off-road performance and customers who demand environmentally-conscious efficiency. If the last half-decade is any barometer, then Volvo seems to know how to make cars that offer the best of both worlds.
