2014 Audi R8 Overview
What’s New for the 2014 Audi R8
The 2014 Audi R8 returns after a year off the market with a few notable changes. A minor face-lift, weight-saving measures, and a new automated manual transmission all contribute to what is probably the greatest R8 model year yet.
2014 Audi R8 Exterior
Inspired by Audi’s Le Mans-winning racecars, the 2014 Audi R8 cuts a sleek and slim shape that would make any driver out on the road drool. Pronounced air intakes, aerodynamic styling, and a low stance creates an exotic presence on the road, making it easy to see why it was the car of choice to star in the Iron Man franchise.
2014 Audi R8 Performance
Depending on the amount of power you’re looking for, three different powertrains are available for the 2014 R8. For the least amount of power, the base 4.2-liter V8 sends 430 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque through an all-wheel-drive system with a standard six-speed manual transmission and optional seven-speed double-clutch automated manual. The second highest power level comes from the Audi R8 V10, which is equipped with a 5.2-liter V10 that churns out 525 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque, reaching 60 mph from a standstill in an astounding 3.7 seconds. A R8 V10 Plus boosts the power output of the 5.2-liter, getting 550 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque.
2014 Audi R8 Efficiency
For the 4.2-liter engine, expect an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 14 mpg combined with the manual and 17 mpg combined with the automated manual. The V10 and boosted V10 both get a 14 combined mpg with the manual and 16 mpg with the new automated manual.
2014 Audi R8 Interior
A finely crafted cabin reflects the sporty exterior with a combination of a thicker steering wheel rim, shift paddles, and high-quality materials. The specially designed, lightweight seats are comfortable, while the center stack has an elegant swoop to it, though it isn’t as driver friendly as you would hope it to be. The MMI system controls the navigation and audio, while a microphone for Bluetooth is integrated into the driver’s seatbelt, making it easy to make phone calls. There isn’t much cargo space throughout the car, though this is expected in a car built for speed.
2014 Audi R8 Safety
Antilock disc brakes, stability control, side airbags, and knee airbags all come as standard safety features in the 2014 R8, while front and rear parking sensors and a rearview camera come as either standard or optional features depending on the trim level.
