2014 GM Canada Sales Mark Best Total Since 2009
When compared to more than 2 million sales in the US and more than 3.5 million sales in China, a little less than a quarter-million vehicle sales might not seem like much. Still, General Motors is more than happy with that particular number, which equals the total number of Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles sold in the Great White North in 2014.
GM Canada racked up 249,800 sales in 2014, which marked both a 6% year-over-year increase from the 234,944 sales of 2013 and the company’s best sales mark in Canada since 2009.
“Consumer response to our award-winning launch products drove a strong close for 2014,” said Steve Carlisle, president and managing director, General Motors of Canada. “As we start 2015, we will strive to deliver maximum consumer value by delivering a full suite of owner benefits, with solid warranties, industry-leading technology, complimentary lube oil and filter service with every vehicle, and a full range of financing and leasing options.”
The vast majority of GM Canada sales in 2014 were Chevrolet vehicles. Chevy accounted for 144,271 units, up 4% over 2013. GMC was white hot with 75,246 units sold, marking the brand’s best-ever year in Canada. The success of these brands was largely predicated upon high demand for GM pickups, of which 90,005 sold throughout 2014.
The luxury brands also had huge years for GM Canada: Buick’s sales totaled 18,745, marking the brand’s best year since 2006, and Cadillac experienced its best year ever with sales toaling 10,538 units.
