3 Car Museums in Massachusetts
Visitors to Massachusetts tend to focus their time in historic Boston or beautiful Martha’s Vineyard. But the Bay State is also home to several classic car museums that depict the rich history of automobiles in America. Check out the following three museums on your next trip.
Heritage Museums & Gardens
While not solely an automobile museum, Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich has a permanent collection of classic cars ranging in date from 1899 to 1962. The vehicles are housed in the J.K. Lilly Automobile Gallery inside the museum campus and include a 1919 Pierce-Arrow Model 48 Touring, a 1962 Chevrolet Corvette, and a 1913 Ford Model T Touring.

In addition to antique vehicles, Heritage Museums & Gardens features a vintage carousel. The 100-acre garden includes trees, flowers, lawns, and shrubs. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Toad Hall Classic Car Museum
Fans of the classic novel Wind in the Willows will remember the character Toad of Toad Hall, who was fascinated with motorcars. This museum in Hyannis Port boasts a unique collection of classic cars that would have Toad groaning with jealousy. Just like Toad’s collection, all cars at the Toad Hall Classic Car Museum are red and include vehicles by Austin Healy, Jaguar, MG, Mini, Datsun, and Porsche. Visit Toad Hall seven days a week from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Larz Anderson Auto Museum
The Larz Anderson Auto Museum is located 10 minutes from downtown Boston in Brookline, making it a must-visit for residents of and visitors to Beantown. The museum was founded by Larz and Isabel Anderson, who owned many cars during their life, retiring them to their carriage house when they became obsolete. Upon Isabel’s death, the collection was donated to the Veteran Motor Car Club of America, who established the Larz Anderson Auto Museum to display the vintage vehicles.
Vehicles on display include an 1899 Winton, 1907 Fiat, 1913 Hudson 33, and 1941 Packard Suburban. The museum is open Tuesday-Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
