New York State has a wealth of fun ways to ring in the holiday season. Here’s a look at three delightful road trip destinations in the Empire State.

Santa’s Workshop

Can’t make it to the North Pole to let your little ones visit Santa Claus? Upstate New York has the next best thing. Come to Santa’s Workshop in the Adirondacks, near Lake Placid. It’s full of kid-friendly activities and attractions, including a candy shop, a hat-making craft project, and a selection of carnival rides. There’s even a barn full of live reindeer that you can meet and greet!

The Real Bedford Falls

Although “It’s a Wonderful Life” is a work of fiction, the homey little world of Bedford Falls was based on a real location — Seneca Falls. Billing itself as “The Real Bedford Falls,” Seneca Falls offers no shortage of way to celebrate both the classic movie and the Christmas season. The annual “It’s a Wonderful Life” festival features a craft show, a quilt raffle, snacks themed after the film, and visits with original cast members. There are also charity events, book signings, and of, course, film showings.

Albany Holiday Lights

For 2019, this Albany tradition offers 125 Christmas light displays for your viewing pleasure. This drive-through attraction takes place at Washington Park, but if you’d rather tour the displays on foot, you come to the park for a wide range of other celebrations. There’s a charity Pet Walk Night where your pooch can join in the celebration, as well as some tasty food-themed events. The Chili, Chowder and Soup Festival also features live music and craft vendors, while the Craft Beer, Wine & Spirits Festival offers a grown-up evening with a festive twist.
