Northeast

Picturesque parks trip

For a fun weekend of hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, or fishing, head to Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Mohican State Park located within the region that spans between Mansfield and Cleveland.

Lodging

Bring a tent to camp out at one of the parks, or find lodging at one of the local hotels nearby. For accommodations near Cuyahoga, try the Stanford House, the Inn at Brandywine Falls, or the LaQuinta by Wyndham Cleveland. If you prefer to overnight closer to Mohican, try the treehouse lodging at Themohicans.net or the medieval-styled rooms at Landoll’s Mohican Castle.

Dining

Grab a bite to eat at Winking Lizard Tavern, Tinker’s Creek Road Tavern, or Spennatos. Satisfy your sweet tooth at Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream or Jubilee Donuts.

Southeast

Woods and brews trip

Head to the Athens area to explore lush woods and taste a variety of quality beers. Hocking Hills offers a variety of trails and geographical gems like Old Man’s Cave, Rock House, and Cedar Falls. The giant trees, vibrant greenery, and clarity of the water have an otherworldly quality perfect for photography.

Lodging

For housing, book one of the many cottages or cabins available in and near the park. Though, if you can’t find one that’s not booked (and they definitely book up fast during the spring and summer season), try the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Athens, Baymont by Wyndham in Logan, or The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls.

Dining

Grab some tasty food at Utopia Brick Oven Restaurant or Millstone Restaurant Smoked BBQ. Make sure to stop by Jackie O’s Public House & Brewpub or West End Cider House for some tasty ciders or beers.

Southwest

A weekend in Cincinnati trip

Cincinnati makes a great getaway for families and couples. Witness the city skyline from Eden Park and check out Krohn Conservatory and its surrounding gardens. Visit Carew Tower to enjoy the Art Deco interior of the building, then check out the observation deck at the top for a bird’s eye view of the city.

You can also head down to the riverfront for kid-friendly activities like water-play areas, a carousel, and swings. Tour the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens for a healthy dose of both flora and fauna. If your family prefers an adrenaline rush, venture to The Beach Waterpark or King’s Island.

Lodging

For central-city lodging, try the 21c Museum Hotel on Walnut Street or Hyatt Regency on West Fifth Street. For more affordable accommodation, try just outside of the city, at the Red Roof Inn & Suites Cincinnati North-Mason or Wingate by Wyndham in Blue Ash.

Dining

The downtown district boasts a plethora of places to dine and drink. Cilantro Vietnamese Bistro in the Clifton area has amazing pho. The yummy waffles of Taste of Belgium in Over the Rhine make a great brunch or mid-day snack. Happy Belly on Vine Street and Rhinegeist Brewery are also worth checking out. You can also sample a diverse array of ethnic fare from the vendors and shops at Findlay Market.
