The year-round temperate weather in Alabama makes it the ideal setting for spending time outdoors. The following drive-in movie theaters offer year-round entertainment for Alabamans looking for a nostalgic slice of Americana.

411 Twin Drive-In

Located in the city of Centre, the 411 Twin Drive-In has been part of the community since it opened in 1953. It was forced to close its gates as the golden age of drive-ins faded with the advent of TV. Luckily, the original owner reopened the 411 Twin Drive-In in 2001 as these theaters regained popularity as a uniquely American attraction.

Today, the 411 Twin Drive-In has two screens, a new restaurant, and Hawaiian shaved ice. It is open year-round on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the theater is open seven nights a week. Admission is $15 per car.

Blue Moon Drive-In Theater

The Blue Moon Drive-In Theater is located in the small town of Gu-Win. The theater has two screens playing double features, with audio connected to your car’s radio. The drive-in is open Friday-Monday evenings year-round. Admission is per person: $7 for adults, $4 for kids ages 6-11, and free for kids 5 and under. Mondays are usually discounted at $10 per car, rather than per person. You can get the usual movie theater food and drinks from the on-site concession stand.

Continental Drive-In Movie

Movie fans in Wicksburg should head to the Continental Drive-In, located on Highway 84 West. The Continental is known for its good atmosphere and cheap food concessions. The theater has strict rules on lights, meaning you must switch off your headlights entirely and make sure your foot is off the brake pedal to avoid disturbing other patrons. A 10-minute intermission between movies allows you to stock up on food and drinks during a double feature.

The theater charges per person rather than per carload: $8 for adults, $7 for military members, and $6 for kids under 12.

Sand Mountain Drive-In

Located in Boaz, the Sand Mountain Drive-In has two screens showing double features on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. Unlike many drive-in theaters, Sand Mountain is pet-friendly and allows talking and texting during the movie. The first movie of the night usually starts at 7 p.m. but it could be later depending on when it gets dark. The theater, which is open rain or shine, charges $15 per carload.
