The Gem State offers a variety of activities to make this New Year’s a memorable one. Here are just a few holiday events worth attending.

A Car for Your Canine: The dog-friendly attributes of the Pacifica and Wrangler

Idaho Potato Drop

Boise’s annual Idaho Potato Drop event is one of the most popular ways to party on the last night of the year. As the name implies, this highlight of the event occurs at midnight when a giant, glowing potato — made out of polystyrene resin, if you’re curious — drops as fireworks launch into the night sky. Hone your skiing and tubing skills at the snow park area, then check out the beer garden, grab some food, and soak up some heat at the Warming Tent as you wait for the main event.

Torchlight Parade and Fireworks

Catch Tamarack’s unique tribute to the new year when you attend the annual Torchlight Parade and Fireworks. Tamarack Resort will host this event on Dec. 31 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Warm yourself by the bonfire then enjoy some beverages and dance the night away inside the Canoe Grill to DJ-provided tunes.

New Year’s Eve Pow Wow & Celebration Tour

If you’re looking for a new way to do New Year’s, head to Lapwai for the New Year’s Eve Pow Wow & Celebration Tour. Learn more about the historical and cultural roots of the Nimiipuu people when you attend this event on Dec. 31 from 6-9 p.m. The powwow is open to both Nimiipuu as well as the general public.

Family Night-skiing, Party, & Fireworks

Ski the slopes of Dollar Mountain while enjoying child-friendly activities like face painting, bouncy twister, and party-hat decorating when you attend this dynamic event. Festivities start at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and continue through 9 p.m. The celebration culminates with a fireworks display to welcome in the new year.
