Head to Carthage to witness the Precious Moments Park and Chapel, which celebrates artist Samuel J. Butcher’s collectible figurines. Per the attraction’s website, the chapel was inspired by Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel in Rome. It also features approximately 5,000 square feet of murals, depicting Bible stories as well as a “Hallelujah Square” portion which pays tribute to children who died prematurely.

World’s Largest Pecan

Brunswick boasts another unusual attraction worth exploring: The World’s Largest Pecan. As the name implies, this monument is a giant statue of a pecan nut, which makes a quirky photo op for any nut connoisseur.

Leila’s Hair Museum

Leila’s Hair Museum in Independence is definitely one of the most bizarre sites in the state. Per the establishment’s website, it’s the only hair museum in the world. It also includes over 2,000 pieces of jewelry and 600 wreaths made from human hair. The oldest artifact in the museum is a brooch dating from 1680.

The Hall of Waters

f you’re passing through Excelsior Springs, make sure to stop by The Hall of Waters. It’s an Art Deco temple constructed as a Public Works Administration project designed for piping mineral water to the bottling facilities within the building. Peruse the hall to witness the world’s largest water bar and learn more about the history of both the building and the project itself.
