Nissan Vehicles in ParisFebruary, the month of love and paper hearts, is quickly on its way to us. Whether you’re taking a road trip with your sweetheart or just bored in traffic, consider these new audiobook releases to enjoy on your next drive.

The Chef by James Patterson and Max DiLallo

Mardi Gras is especially late this year, falling on Tuesday, March 5. That doesn’t mean you have to wait to party, though! James Patterson’s latest book, The Chef, written in partnership with Max DiLallo, takes place in the Big Easy during the festive days of Carnival. Detective Caleb Rooney, who you might recognize from the Killer Chef BookShot from 2016, is a detective by day and a food truck chef by night. Now he’s under investigation for murder, and it’s up to his skills and smarts to get out of this mess. If this sounds like your kind of book, it comes out on Feb. 18.

On the Come Up by Angie Thomas

If you regularly carpool with your teen, or you’re looking for something more than traditional adult literature, consider giving On the Come Up by Angie Thomas a listen on Feb. 5. Thomas is the author of The Hate U Give, which has been comfortably on or near the top of The New York Times’ bestseller list for 98 weeks (or more, by the time you read this). The audiobook is read by the legendary Bahni Turpin and follows the story of sixteen-year-old Bri, who dreams of being the greatest rapper of all time and supporting her family. It’s sure to be another bestseller, so you should enjoy it as soon as possible.

The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls by Anissa Gray

Speaking of Bahni Turpin, you can catch her as part of a full cast of narrators reading The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls by Anissa Gray on Feb. 19. Joined by January LaVoy, Adenrele Ojo, and Dominic Hoffman, the book tells the story of three sisters and one of their husbands through a family scandal that threatens to tear everyone apart. Early reviewers call this a mix of The Mothers and An American Marriage, so if you’re a fan of either book consider adding this to your To Be Read (or listened to) pile.

Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James

Man Booker Prize-winning author Marlon James joins the fantasy and science fiction genre with Black Leopard, Red Wolf, the first book of The Dark Star Trilogy, on Feb. 5. It’s the perfect audiobook for a very long drive, or maybe reading in the book and switching to audiobook while you drive, because it clocks in at exactly 24 hours and 2 minutes long. That’s appropriate since many reviewers say the story is on the same epic scale as the Game of Thrones series. The book’s protagonist, Tracker, is on the hunt for a kidnapped boy who went missing three years ago, and he travels across enchanted lands on his search. Consider giving it a try if you’re ready for your next big fantasy series.

The Collected Schizophrenias by Esmé Weijun Wang

Another audiobook debuting on Feb. 5 is The Collected Schizophrenias by Esmé Weijun Wang. Clocking in at eight hours, this is a relatively light listen compared to some on my list, but its heavy subject matter might leave you thinking otherwise. Narrated by the author, it is a collection of essays that look into what it’s like to be diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, from how doctors discuss it, to actually experiencing it, to discussions of institutionalization. The collection gathered the Graywolf Press Nonfiction Prize and a Whiting Award, and the advance reviews from fellow authors and readers are great, but consider the topic (and your car audience) before hitting play.

The Huntress by Kate Quinn

The best-selling author Kate Quinn of The Alice Network fame is back on Feb. 26 with another World War II novel, The Huntress. This one partners together a British war correspondent and a Soviet bomber pilot on a search for a Nazi war criminal hiding in America named The Huntress. Not only does this book return to a familiar time period for Quinn, but the audiobook is read by the same narrator, Saskia Maarleveld. Early reviewers on Goodreads for the print edition are pretty positive, so this book is a safe bet if you’re in her fan base.

You can borrow audiobooks online from many public libraries, or consider signing up for Audible to make sure that your car ride is full of today’s most popular stories. We’ll be back next month to take a look at the audiobooks coming up in March.
