Hot hatchbacks powered by gasoline engines are gradually disappearing from the European market as stricter emissions regulations reshape the automotive industry. Brands such as Alpine, Cupra, Mini, Peugeot, and Volkswagen are now shifting iconic performance badges toward electric vehicles in an attempt to preserve the segment.

Opel’s answer comes in the form of the new Corsa GSE, a front-wheel-drive electric hatchback developed as the German counterpart to the Peugeot E-208 GTi. The model revives the sporty Corsa lineage once represented by the Corsa OPC, though now fully electric and paired exclusively with an automatic drivetrain.

The Most Powerful and Fastest Corsa Ever Built

The Opel Corsa GSE produces 278 horsepower and 345 Newton-meters of torque from a front-mounted electric motor. According to Motor1, these figures make it not only the most powerful Corsa ever produced, but also the quickest Opel currently available on the market.

The hatchback accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.5 seconds and reaches a top speed electronically limited to 112 mph (180 km/h). Opel retains a front-wheel-drive layout similar to previous combustion-powered performance Corsas.

The model also receives a Torsen multi-plate limited-slip differential and a lowered sports suspension setup. Opel says the steering calibration has been revised for a more engaging driving experience, while throttle and brake pedal responses have also been refined.

Exclusive front and rear axles are fitted to the GSE version. The braking system features four-piston Alcon front brakes positioned behind 18-inch wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires in a 215/40 R18 configuration.

A Compact Electric Hatch Focused on Performance

Power comes from a 51-kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a stated net capacity. While Opel has not disclosed the official driving range for the Corsa GSE, it is likely to exceed the 209 miles (336 kilometers) WLTP range quoted for the related Mokka GSE crossover.

The Mokka GSE weighs slightly more than the smaller Corsa, which could allow the hatchback to deliver marginally better efficiency figures. Opel lists the Corsa GSE’s weight at approximately 3,417 pounds (1,550 kilograms).

Despite the additional mass associated with electric vehicles, the company has attempted to reinforce the model’s sporty identity through chassis revisions and performance-oriented components rather than outright lightweight construction.

Revised Styling and a Sportier Cabin Design

Visually, the Corsa GSE receives a more aggressive exterior treatment compared with the standard model. Opel adds redesigned bumpers along with black accents on the roof, wheel arches, and rear spoiler.

Inside, the hatchback features upgraded front seats designed to provide greater lateral support during spirited driving. Yellow seatbelts create a contrast against the darker interior materials, while Alcantara trim pieces and aluminum sport pedals reinforce the sporty theme.

Yellow stitching appears across the armrests and door panels as part of the cabin updates. These design touches are intended to distinguish the GSE from the regular electric Corsa lineup while maintaining the compact hatchback format associated with previous hot hatch models.
