2015 Honda Fit Named Yahoo Autos Value Car of the Year
Although the Volkswagen Golf GTI took home the title of Best Car of the Year, it was the 2015 Honda Fit that had the distinction of being the Yahoo Autos Value Car of the Year.
The 2015 Honda Fit has a base Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price of $15,525, but the fully-loaded Fit that the editors at Yahoo Autos tested cost $21,590. What made the Fit a greater value than any of the other 17 new 2015 vehicles they tested was the fact that it had “features some of [their] other cars didn’t at more than twice the price,” including an optional built-in navigation system. And while they were driving the top trim, even the base Fit LX model that costs 15 grand is equipped with a standard rearview camera, iPod integration, and Bluetooth.
In addition to the feature-laden cabin, the 2015 Honda Fit was also praised for its stiffer chassis and suspension, surprisingly roomy rear seating and cargo area, and good sightlines. Powered by a 130 horsepower, 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, Yahoo’s test Fit came with the Continuously Variable Transmission, which increased the Fit’s mileage to 32 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. In addition to the CVT, optional paddle shifters on the steering wheel enabled drivers to change the engine’s rev bands.
“I never expected to be smiling and feverishly clicking the paddle-shift CVT gearbox on a curvy road in the new Honda Fit. But I did, and I enjoyed myself,” said editor and racer Alex Lloyd. “While it does feel decidedly top heavy, it remains quirky and cute.”
While the VW Golf GTI took top honors for Best Car of the Year and the Honda Fit was awarded the 2015 Yahoo Autos Value Car of the Year title, other honorable mentions went to the Dodge Challenger Hellcat for Enthusiast Car of the Year, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class for Luxury Car of the Year, the BMW i3 for Green Car of the Year, and the Chevy Camaro Z/28 for Performance Car of the Year.
