2019 GMC Sierra 1500

If you’re a fan of off-roading and GMC trucks, you’re likely familiar with the AT4. If you’ve ever wished that the AT4 was available across more of the brand’s models, you’ll soon get your wish. GMC recently confirmed that the AT4 trim level will be available across the entire lineup in the next two years.

Until now, only three GMC models offer an AT4 version: the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500, 2020 GMC Acadia, and 2020 GMC Sierra HD. The AT4 is a relatively new offering, since it replaced the All Terrain version that was formerly available on the three models just mentioned.

First new recipients of the AT4 trim

Per GM Authority, the next models to get the AT4 variant are the Canyon, Yukon, and Terrain. Considering that all three of these models are scheduled for either refreshes or total makeovers for 2021, it’s not surprising that the brand decided to start its AT4 trim expansion with them. This AT4 trim integration will cater to outdoorsy folk who appreciate their Canyon, Yukon, or Terrain model, but wish it had a bit more off-roading capability.

Rumors of a Savana AT4

But what about the Savana? In its press release, GMC announced the AT4 trim’s expansion, claiming that the entire lineup would receive an AT4 variant. Some sources, like GM Authority, believe that the Savana van lineup won’t receive the AT4 option. Perhaps the automaker was so excited about the AT4 hitting three more of its popular models that it failed to mention the Savana during the press release.
