Clean Driving: Audi plans to cut emissions by 30 percent by 2025
Engineering achievements
Audi achieved this boost in efficiency by cooking up a few significant hardware changes.
For instance, the e-tron’s new brake wheel reduces the energy losses caused by the brake calipers and brake discs. The automaker also overhauled the e-tron’s cooling system so that the pump consumes less power. Now, is has a decreased volume flow and the ability to warm the cabin with heat from the battery. While this may not seem like a huge change, it has the capacity to increase the e-tron’s driving range by as much as 10 percent, depending on the weather conditions.
Furthermore, the engineers devised a system that separates the front motor from the electrical supply under typical driving conditions, leading to even more gains in efficiency. However, the biggest boost comes from the e-tron’s innovative new energy recovery system, which accounts for as much as 30 percent of the SUV’s range. It also boasts three distinctive stages of coasting recuperation, including a performance-oriented setting that offers a one-pedal driving experience
