The current second-generation Audi Q7 was unveiled in January 2015 at the Detroit Auto Show. After more than 11 years on the market and two facelifts, the SUV is finally nearing replacement.

Some observers expected the larger Q9 to debut first, but Audi’s smaller luxury SUV will lead the next phase of the brand’s SUV lineup. The new Q7 is being positioned against rivals such as the Mercedes GLE facelift and the upcoming next-generation BMW X5.

A New Q7 Arrives After More Than a Decade

The teaser image shows the 2027 Audi Q7 in S Line trim and finished in Alopias Blue. Details remain limited, but the image confirms traditional door handles, a notable design choice as Audi prepares to introduce the model alongside the larger Q9.

The third-generation Q7 is expected to share a visual direction with the Q9, which has already been teased. Audi has not yet fully revealed the exterior, but the new model is clearly intended to modernize one of the brand’s longest-running SUV nameplates.

Motor1 reports that Audi has taken an unusually long time to renew the Q7. The current model’s age makes this redesign a significant update within Audi’s SUV range.

Interior Quality Returns to the Spotlight

Audi has already shown the interior of the Q9, and the Q7 is expected to follow a similar cabin direction. The new SUV will sit below the Q9 in the lineup, but Audi says it will feature “first-class materials.”

That detail matters because Audi previously acknowledged that its interior quality had declined in recent years. The company has also promised a return to form, making the new Q7 an important test of that commitment.

The dashboard may follow the screen-heavy layout seen in the Q9 and other recent Audi models. The Q7 is also likely to continue offering a third-row option, while buyers seeking more space for rear passengers and cargo will be directed toward the larger Q9.

Powertrain Details Remain Under Wraps

Audi has not yet released official powertrain specifications for the 2027 Q7. V6 gasoline and diesel engines appear likely, while a future SQ7 could potentially bring a larger V8.

A plug-in hybrid version is also expected to be part of the plan, especially as emissions regulations continue to tighten in markets such as Europe. Audi has not confirmed battery size, output figures, or launch-market details.

The Q7 and Q9 are not the only models Audi plans to reveal this year. At the lower end of the lineup, the A2 is set to return this fall as a fully electric vehicle, taking over the entry-level role after the A1 and Q2 were discontinued.

The next-generation RS6 Sedan and RS6 Avant are also expected to break cover in 2026, although Audi has not officially confirmed them. For now, the Q7 is the model moving into focus, with its full reveal expected in the coming days.
