BedStep: A Practical New Feature for the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD
The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD is one big, tall chunk of truck. So big and tall, in fact, that drivers will be giving thanks for its practical new BedStep feature whenever they use the cargo box.
The BedStep, a step with a grippy surface, is built right into the side of the Silverado HD’s bed. It’s located right behind the cab and right in front of the rear wheel well.
The new Silverado HD will be the first Chevy truck to incorporate the BedStep. It’s yet another way the brand is seeking to distinguish the model from the Silverado 1500.

The Silverado HD is significantly bigger and taller than its Silverado 1500 sibling, so the BedStep will be a welcome addition — most notably for drivers who need to access the cargo box while towing a fifth-wheel trailer.
The BedStep should pair nicely with GM’s CornerStep bumper. The CornerStep provides cutout steps on both corners of the rear bumper and handholds in the box rail protector, making it easy to climb up and reach into the cargo box. It’s offered on each Chevy and GMC pickup model.
While details are still sparse on the BedStep-equipped 2020 Silverado HD, we know that it will offer five trim levels, along with a pair of powertrain options: a new direct-injected V8 gas engine and a new turbo-diesel V8 mated to a 10-speed transmission.
For more details, we’ll have to wait until 2019. The new Silverado HD will be unveiled in February and roll into dealerships sometime toward the middle of the year.
