Located between Maryland and Virginia, the thriving city continues to be a go-to destination for those looking to revel in the glory that is the United States.

What You’ll See

Rather than the natural beauties you’d see on the typical road trip, Washington, DC offers an abundance of historical monuments and a variety of architecture with some of the most loved buildings in America. From the White House to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the sights have more than just physical appeal—they bring visitors from near and far into the past with their history.

Where to Stop

The sightseeing opportunities within the DC area are absolutely endless and entirely dependent on your interests. If museums are on the agenda for the day, you won’t want to miss the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum or the National Gallery of Art. There are numerous memorials as well, dedicated to those who fought for our country’s freedom, ranging from the Civil War to the Civil Rights movement and beyond. Tributes to past presidents abound, including both the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. Regardless of the sights you see, there is no way to go wrong in this historically rich city.

Washington, DC came into being in 1790 with the Congressional passing of the Residence Act, which approved the building of a national capital on the Potomac River. It received its name on September 9, 1791 after the current president (and first president) of the United States, George Washington. Since its establishment, DC has been the home of 44 U.S. Presidents and countless members of both the Congress and Supreme Court. Many of the most memorable events in our country’s history took place in the city, something that you will definitely notice as you walk the city’s streets.
