Nissan and LEGO: A perfect fit

Asako Hoshino, Nissan executive vice president, expressed her support for the new playset. “The Nissan GT-R and the LEGO brand are both renowned and loved by fans of all ages throughout the world, and we are honored to be the first-ever Japanese car manufacturer to partner with the LEGO Group,” she remarked in a statement. Hoshino also noted that many grown-up Nissan fans kindled their passion for cars by building LEGO models. “With this partnership, everyone can be a `Takumi’,” she said, referring to the tradition of Japanese craftspeople renowned for their expertise.

Niels B. Christiansen, the CEO of the LEGO group, was similarly delighted by the new set and the creativity that it will foster.

“In addition to offering a wonderful and fun building and play experience, we hope the model will also inspire children to learn more about engineering and how to create things in real life,” Christiansen said. He hopes it will play a role in inspiring the fostering the growth of children’s problem-solving skills, resilience and critical thinking.

Recreating an icon

LEGO and Nissan truly outdid themselves when translating the Nissan GT-R into plastic brick format. Even Nissan’s chief product specialist, the man known as Mr. GT-R, has given the LEGO model his enthusiastic endorsement. He’s been a die-hard fan of the supercar since he was 10 years old, and working with the LEGO group on the project was a dream come true for him.

The LEGO Speed Champions Nissan GT-R NISMO set even recreates the model’s iconic taillights and includes many minute details that you’ll find in the real-life car. The kit contains 298 pieces and is set to go on sale in January 2020.
