Cadillac Designers Confirm the Cadillac Escala’s Design Draws Inspiration from Luxury Watches
The design of the Cadillac Escala concept vehicle drew inspiration from a number of Cadillac models that came before it. However, recent statements from its designers reveal another source of inspiration for the model.
Those designers have stated that the Escala borrowed design cues from luxury watches as well.
Reasons to Consider a Cadillac: Why buy a Cadillac?
The Cadillac Escala’s exterior exudes allusions to professional watchmaking techniques. Metallic accents scattered throughout the exterior design resemble those that can be found on an expensive watch. Specifically, the vehicle’s grille is coated with a bronze finish, the type that you’d find on many luxury timepieces
The Escala’s exterior design is also defined by sharp lines and edges. In watchmaking, these kinds of lines and edges are outlined by dual finishes, and a similar technique was employed for the Escala.
The allusions toward watch design techniques continues within the Escala’s cabin. The knobs and interfaces of the Escala resemble those that might be found on the side of a watch.
According to Kathy Sirvio, the Escala isn’t the only Cadillac to take design cues from luxury timepieces. Indeed, many of these elements are incorporated into every Cadillac model that she and her team work on.
