Cadillac Sales Slip 8.1% in August; XT5 Posts Second-Best Retail Month Since Launch
Cadillac sales declined 8.1% in August with a total of 15,016 vehicles sold. Retail sales were down 14.3% from August 2016, totaling 11,992 vehicles. The Cadillac XT5 and the Escalade ESV were the only Cadillac products to escape a sales drop from the year prior. In fact, most remaining Cadillac models dropped double digits, save for the Escalade, which only decreased 3.4%.

The Cadillac XT5 led the luxury brand from both a volume and a growth perspective. Sales of the XT5 totaled 7,236 vehicles, good for a 46.8% year-over-year increase. At retail, the XT5 was up 28%, which was good enough for the new crossover’s second-best month at retail since launching in 2016. To date, Cadillac has sold a total of 42,538 XT5 crossovers, making it the brand’s volume leader by a wide margin.
Sales of the Escalade and Escalade ESV were solid in August with respective totals of 1,803 and 1,191 vehicles. This continues the year-to-date trend of Escalade sales declines being more or less offset by increases in sales of the Escalade ESV: sales of the Escalade ESV are up 2.1% to date at 9,092 vehicles, while the Escalade is down 2.3% at 13,708 vehicles.
Otherwise, total sales for each vehicle in the Cadillac lineup were down double digits. ATS sales were down 59.1%, CT6 sales were down 31.1%, CTS sales were down 15.8%, and XTS sales were down 24.4%.
With two-thirds of 2017 in the books, Cadillac sales are down 5.4% at a total of 98,316 units. Retail sales are down 6.5% at a total of 86,996 vehicles.
