NFL star Cam Newton and supermodel Miranda Kerr will star in Buick’s Super Bowl LI Commercial

This will be Buick’s second straight year airing a Super Bowl commercial

For many years, Buick was known as a conservative brand that produced quality vehicles, but did little in the way of promoting its luxury cars, at least when it came to commercials. However, Buick has taken a new direction in the past several years by introducing the “That’s not a Buick” ad campaign, which pokes fun at its previous reputation of being unadventurous and safe.

In fact, the first time Buick actually paid money to run a Super Bowl commercial was just one year ago. That commercial promoted the new Cascada convertible and also featured NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. along with model Emily Ratajkowski. In addition, Buick ran a wedding-themed commercial during last year’s Super Bowl.

For this year’s game, Buick will be running another commercial, which will reportedly star Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr and NFL quarterback Cam Newton. Kerr seemingly confirmed that she will appear in the ad by Tweeting pictures of her and Newton during the alleged photo shoot. Automotive News (subscription required) reported that Buick could have paid up to $5 million to air just one 30-second advertisement.

It’s unknown which vehicle or vehicles will be featured in this year’s ad. Buick released the new Cascada convertible and Envision crossover last year and plan to release updated versions of the Regal sedan and Enclave SUV this year. Moreover, Buick has announced it will launch a new Avenir sub-brand, which will be similar to GMC’s Denali lineup.

Whichever model is shown in the commercial, it looks like Cam Newton will be the right person to promote it. That’s because Newton’s official Instagram account already features several GM vehicles, including a customized Chevrolet Silverado and 1970 Oldsmobile 442 Cutlass.
