Check Out Target’s New Look for the Release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
If you plan on venturing to a Target store sometime over the next week or so, you’ll probably notice things look a little different than usual. That’s because the retail giant is redecorating to celebrate the impending launch of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch (while actively trying to restock the popular game consoles as quickly as possible to keep up with the crazy demand).
As you pull up to your neighborhood Target, the first thing you’ll notice will be the presence of Mario and Luigi’s giant round heads in place of the usual red bollards that help protect shoppers walking in and out of the building from rogue vehicles. Then, as you head inside, you’ll see that some of the plastic carts have received a makeover and now resemble real-life Mario Karts (specifically, those belonging to Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach).

Target stores have also been equipped with motion sensors by the front doors that play the Mario theme song and flash lights as you enter the building.
This isn’t the first time Target has decorated its famous big red bollards. In 2011, the store transformed them into giant beach balls as part of a summer campaign, while last year the bollards became humungous Poké Balls. Target has never decorated its carts before, though this will certainly give them ideas for future campaigns.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch officially releases on April 28, and until then (and quite possibly after as well), Target will be a hub of excitement for kids of all ages excited to play the newest iteration of the classic game on the sought-after game console. While you won’t be able to physically get your hands on a copy before the release date, you can pre-order Mario Kart 8 on Target’s website.
