As much as you might be tempted, hibernating for the winter just isn’t possible. As humans, our world, work, and responsibilities do not cease when the temperature dips low and the snow and ice fall down. But just because you’d rather be home under the covers, doesn’t mean the time you spend on the road has to be uninspired, especially if you’re behind the wheel of a Chevy Silverado 1500 or a Chevy Tahoe. The popular truck and family-designed SUV snagged two spots on Autotrader’s list of the 10 Coolest Cars for Winter 2019.

According to writer Eric Brandt, the Autotrader staff was impressed with updates in the new Silverado 1500 such as the quad-cab model’s more spacious back seat, the range of engine options, most notably the turbocharged inline four, and the roomier cargo bed.

“As for which one to get for winter, we’d recommend any Silverado equipped with the Z71 off-road package. This includes off-road-ready features like off-road suspension, hill descent control, skid plates, a locking rear differential, all-terrain tires and more,” Brandt reports. “The Z71 package is available on 4×4 Silverados and standard on the Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss trims, which add a cool off-road aesthetic, upgraded Goodyear Wrangler tires and a modest suspension lift.”

The Chevy Tahoe is ideal for winter because of its available four-wheel drive and truck-like structure, according to Brandt. Plus, the Tahoe is big, offering impressive towing capability and space for getaway gear.

“One of our favorite Tahoe special editions for 2019 is the Z71 Midnight Edition. Not only do you get the cool black aesthetic of the Midnight Edition, but you also get the Z71 off-road package like the one we mentioned in the Silverado, making the Tahoe able to handle a wide variety of off-roading adventures,” he adds.
