A Coupe-Like Design and 473-Mile Range: Mercedes Turns the C-Class into a Long-Range EV

Mercedes-Benz has introduced a fully electric version of its C-Class sedan, aiming directly at BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse i3. The new model combines extended driving range, advanced digital features, and performance figures that position it among premium electric sedans.

The launch marks a major shift for one of Mercedes’ most important global nameplates, now transitioning to battery power while retaining its role in the brand’s core lineup. The model is designed to compete in a segment where premium EV options remain relatively limited, particularly in the United States.

The new electric C-Class also reflects a broader strategy by Mercedes to elevate comfort and in-car technology. The company appears to position the vehicle closer to a scaled-down S-Class rather than a simple electrified version of an existing sedan.

A Redesigned Exterior Focused On Efficiency

The electric C-Class adopts a more streamlined and sporty design than its combustion counterpart, with a drag coefficient of 0.22 aimed at maximizing efficiency. According to Carscoops, Mercedes describes the silhouette as coupe-like, while noting a more distinctive shape compared to the EQE and EQS models.

At the front, the vehicle features an illuminated grille composed of 1,050 individual light elements. The lighting signature extends to the daytime running lights and rear lamps, both incorporating the brand’s star motif. The rear design draws inspiration from the 2025 Concept GT XX, particularly through a transverse black panel integrating the lighting elements.

A Technology-driven Interior With Hyperscreen Display

Inside the cabin, the most prominent feature is the optional 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen spanning the dashboard. This glass-covered interface uses matrix backlighting with over 1,000 individually adjustable LED zones, creating separate display areas for driver and passenger functions.

The system enables simultaneous access to information and entertainment, offering a contrast to BMW’s approach with the i3, which relies on a smaller central touchscreen and a display strip at the base of the windshield.

The interior also introduces higher levels of comfort. Front seats can include massage, ventilation, lumbar adjustment, and integrated 4D sound functions. A panoramic roof with 162 illuminated stars is available, designed to change color alongside the ambient lighting system.

Performance, Range And Driving Technology

The launch version, designated C 400, uses a dual-motor setup producing 482 horsepower (489 PS / 360 kW). The sedan accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, a figure that places it ahead of the GLC 400 SUV, which requires more than four seconds for the same sprint.

Mercedes estimates a maximum WLTP range of up to 473 miles (762 km) from a 94 kWh usable battery. The vehicle can regain up to 202 miles (325 km) of range in 10 minutes when connected to a compatible high-output DC fast charger. The expected EPA range is said to exceed 400 miles (644 km).

The chassis includes optional air suspension, predictive damping based on Car-to-X and mapping data, and rear-axle steering with up to 4.5 degrees of movement. This system reduces the turning circle to 11.2 meters, improving maneuverability in urban settings.

The model runs on the MB.OS software platform, enabling over-the-air updates, AI-based voice assistance, augmented-reality navigation, and the optional MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO system. While classified as Level 2, Mercedes states that it supports point-to-point assisted driving, including in dense traffic conditions.

Mercedes plans to launch the electric C-Class first in the United States, with availability in other markets depending on regulatory approvals. Key details such as pricing, kerb weight, and specifications for a future tri-motor AMG variant remain undisclosed.
