Entrepreneur and mom, Natalie Bell, was worried that her daughter Shae’s hearing loss and recent cochlear implant would impede communication with first responders if she was involved in a car accident. So, to help safeguard her daughter when she was unable to communicate on her behalf, Bell created a seat belt cover embossed with vital messages regarding her daughter’s condition. The seat belt cover reads, “I am deaf. I have a cochlear implant. No MRI.”

The informative cover can be moved to Shae’s backpack, too, to help communicate her needs when she’s out of the car.

Realizing that her solution to communicate her daughter’s needs would help other children with disabilities, Bell expanded her hobby of making personalized items into a business, Personalisedbynat.com, and started including the life-saving seat belt covers.

“I am able to personalize your seat bel covers for any number of conditions that may relate to your loved ones treatment in the event of an emergency. Our seatbelt straps are portable so they can also be used on school or hiking back pack straps, bus seatbelts or any vehicle — being easy to fit (Velcro) they can be used in any number of places,” Bell writes on her site.

In addition to customized messages, covers that boast the following messages (and more) are also available on Bell’s site.

  • Persons with special needs. In an emergency situation, please be award they may not respond, resist and run away, be non-verbal, be unaware of danger
