On Monday morning, a driver discovered a dog had been stuck in her car’s grille for about 45 minutes. Luckily, the dog survived with only minor injuries.

Details on the incident

While a woman was driving from Albany to Rotterdam, New York, she hit a dog on North Manning Boulevard. The dog, a Shiba Inu named Coco, then became trapped inside the car’s grille.

The driver knew she hit something, but she didn’t initially know that she hit a dog. As such, she stopped her car and looked at the damage on her front end, but she didn’t see Coco. She then decided she needed to head towards Glenville to have her car serviced.

As she began driving again, she heard sounds coming from her car’s front end, so she stopped her car again. When she examined the damage this time, she spotted Coco looking at her from the grille.

The driver called the police, who managed to rescue Coco. Police then had an animal control officer get Coco proper medical treatment at Hernas Veterinary Clinic. Thankfully, Coco only had a broken elbow, which will probably need surgery in the future.

“We thought it was a miracle,” Hernas employee Tammy Van Valkenburgh said on Tuesday, “When I walked in yesterday, they told me the miracle dog was here. She was here standing on three legs.”

Valkenburgh went on to say that the roughly 16-pound dog was definitely sore from the incident, but was doing alright, all things considered.

The animal control officer was able to find Coco’s owner, who had been staying with her sister when the dog ran off. It seems hopeful that Coco will continue to do well and recover.
