Driver Crashes BMW into Carousel Horse Sculpture
Only the hooves remain of this once pretty pony
Various cities across the country are home to a collection of decorated statues scattered throughout their metropolitan areas. Cincinnati is famous for its Flying Pig statues, while Albuquerque is lined with Painted Pony sculptures.
Similarly, the town of Meridian, Mississippi is home to a collection of carousel horses. Only now that collection is unfortunately smaller, as a local driver crashed his BMW into one of Meridian’s carousel horses.
BMW Working With Art: Two Upcoming BMW Art Cars Announced
Meridian police officers received a call around 10 p.m. on May 1. The message was from OnStar, and it stated that airbags in the BMW vehicle had been deployed.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found the black BMW crashed in front of the First State Bank at 22nd Avenue and 8th Street. They also discovered what was left of the carousel horse sculpture that once sat outside of the bank.

All that remained of the statue was the horse’s hooves. Everything was demolished by the vehicle.
However, the horse wasn’t the only thing damaged by the BMW. Several trees were uprooted before the vehicle eventually stopped.
Witnesses near the scene observed the driver exit the vehicle and enter another vehicle to leave the scene. Witnesses also suspected that the driver was impaired. Meridian Police Sgt. Dareall Thompson stated that once the suspect is located, he will face charges.
Dozens of the painted carousel horses, modeled after the town’s famous Dentzel Carousel, are scattered throughout the city. Hopefully plans are in place to repair or replace the damaged horse so that the herd can be complete once again.
