2017 Subaru Impreza 5-Door

Earlier this year, Subaru unveiled the redesigned Impreza at the New York Auto Show, and its new look drew a lot of attention–especially due to what the model heralds for the future of the brand.

The new Subaru Global Platform exemplified in the 2017 Impreza is intended to enhance the brand’s vehicles by focusing on three aspects that appeal to its consumers: safety, comfort, and agility. To hone these three traits, the automaker has launched its own design philosophy in the vein of Mazda’s KODO Soul of Motion or Cadillac’s Art + Science. Subaru’s DYNAMIC x SOLID design language aims to improve the brand’s image, but how does it intend to do that?

The Meaning Behind Subaru’s DYNAMIC X SOLID

“This new platform represents the culmination of the know-how we have developed over many years, and we are confident that it will allow us to produce vehicles that live up to our proud traditions and meet the high expectations customers have of Subaru”, said Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, President of Fuji Heavy Industries, upon the unveiling of the 2017 Impreza.

DYNAMIC x SOLID aims to bring out the ruggedness in Subaru’s vehicles by bolstering their body and stance. The new approach emphasizes models’ chiseled fascia and flared fenders. Sportiness is enhanced with a low-angle windshield and headlights that pay homage to the brand’s boxer engines.

Other targets of the new language include ride comfort, noise and vibration suppression, and the ability to accommodate future electric powertrains. A more rigid foundation adds to increased energy absorption.
