F1 Reveals Final Hanoi Grand Prix Circuit Layout
Next year, for the first time ever, Formula One will race in Vietnam at a new circuit in Hanoi, which is still under construction. Organizers have just revealed the final layout for the street circuit, which includes an extra corner at the end of the lap compared to previous designs.
Featuring 23 turns over 5.607 kilometers, the Hanoi Circuit matches the Marina Bay Street Circuit that hosts the Singapore Grand Prix as the venue on the F1 calendar with the most turns.
The circuit is the first to be designed by a new in-house motorsports team that collaborated with long-time F1 circuit designer Hermann Tilke, the man responsible behind the Yas Marina Circuit that hosts the season finale in Abu Dhabi, and the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
It features a 1.6-kilometer straight, one of the longest of any circuit on the calendar, and a 300-meter-long pit building inspired by the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long in Hanoi.

The final section of the lap, which before boasted a quick left followed by a tighter left, was reconfigured to wind first to the right before a tight left, followed by another more open left.
“In the course of building our new track, and carrying out geographical assessments, we have adjusted Turn 22 and added Turn 23 in consultation with Formula 1 and the FIA,” said Le Ngoc Chi, CEO of the Vietnam Grand Prix Corporation. “We have a long stretch, which at 1.6 km is one of the longest stretches on the calendar, and will see cars reach up to 335 km per hour.”
The very existence of the Vietnamese Grand Prix has come under fire by some individuals in Formula One, though if the track is designed well enough to produce good racing, and the stands are not empty, it’s likely nobody will continue to complain in the future.
