Breaking Bad is one of the most fan-beloved and critically-acclaimed television dramas of all time. Focusing primarily on science teacher turned drug kingpin named Walter White, the show received a total of 262 primetime nominations and won 110 over its tenure.

It was recently announced that the series’ story would be continued in a Netflix film called El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. El Camino will focus on Walter White’s former partner, Jesse Pinkman, following the events of the series finale. If you’re not familiar with the show, the title may seem like a non sequitur for a movie about a former drug dealer on the run from the authorities, but the name holds several meanings.

On the most literal level, the title references the 1978 Chevrolet El Camino: a popular coupe utility vehicle that was produced between 1959 and 1987, with a break from ’60 to ’64. It is in this vehicle that we last see Jesse on Breaking Bad.

The Chevy El Camino derived its name from the Spanish word camino, which in English means way, path, road, or journey. It’s not hard to see why these concepts make for an appealing moniker for a car. The term has also been used to name at least one college, one hospital, a community in California, a line of trains in Los Angeles, three musical albums (including the triple-platinum album by The Black Keys, which is a direct reference to the vehicle), and one other Netflix film.

For many of the same reasons that Chevy decided to call their vehicle the El Camino, the term likely holds symbolic value for Jesse Pinkman and the movie at large. A great deal of Breaking Bad was focused on the mirrored personal journeys of Walter and Jesse, as the former became increasingly aggressive and the latter far less so.

Avoid danger wherever it is: Keep your car in tip-top shape

The first non-teaser trailer, released by Netflix last week, strongly implies that El Camino intends to continue this exploration. Despite a wealth of new footage, there are still many questions to be answered. Where will the path take Jesse this time? Will the character follow in Walt’s footsteps? Perhaps most importantly, how much screen time will the titular Chevy classic receive?

All of these questions and more will be answered when the film hits Netflix on October 11.
